Before you go

Plan your trip

  • Visa and entry

Most visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before travel; many African and East African nationals are exempt. The East Africa Tourist Visa covers Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. Apply only on the official portal.

    Official eTA portal
  • Health

You need a yellow fever certificate if you arrive from a country with yellow fever risk, including Uganda. Ask a travel clinic about malaria prevention; Kenya also screens arrivals during regional Ebola outbreaks.

  • Money

National park fees are cashless through KWSPay on eCitizen. Mobile money (M-Pesa) and cards are widely used; carry some shillings for tips and markets.

  • Getting around

International flights land in Nairobi and Mombasa. Safari flights leave from Nairobi's Wilson Airport, and the Madaraka Express train links Nairobi, Tsavo and Mombasa.
