Overview
The ICA issues Somali ordinary passports. Since 1 September 2025 you must hold a NIRA national ID before applying. Applicants attend an interview where documents are checked. Expiring or full passports are replaced with a new booklet, not stamped.

- National ID card
Required for all applicants since 1 September 2025.
- Birth certificate
Original from the local government, or from a Somali embassy abroad.
- CID clearance
A Certificate of Non-Criminal Record from the Criminal Investigation Department.
