Canoe through papyrus to find the shoebill.
Mabamba Bay is a papyrus and lily wetland on the northern shore of Lake Victoria, west of Entebbe. It was designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 2006 and covers about 2,424 hectares.
It is one of the most reliable places near Kampala to see the shoebill, listed as Vulnerable. The wetland also supports the blue swallow, the papyrus yellow warbler and sitatunga antelope.
Community guides lead canoe trips through the channels, so visits support local conservation.
