Soroti University became a fully fledged public university by Statutory Instrument No. 34 of July 2015, the ninth public university in the country. Its mandate is to train competent professionals in the applied sciences for Uganda and the region.
The university is in Arapai, seven kilometres from Soroti town along the Moroto road. It admits government- and privately-sponsored students, and qualifying Ugandans can apply for Higher Education Students Financing Board loans and scholarships.
